Hi everyone, hope you are having a lovely Sunday! Here is the latest instalment of inspirational Sunday Songs
I think music in itself is healing. It's an
explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No
matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music. ~ Billy Joel
We live in a world where oppression and discrimination still exists. People around the globe find themselves being treated unfairly for various reasons, whether it be the colour of their skin, their religion, their culture, their sexual orientation, their nationality etc.
Acts of oppression and discrimination often create an 'us and them' mentality, which breeds further hatred and prejudice. We then find ourselves in a vicious cycle of learned behaviour towards certain communities and the hatred continues. It's important that the cycle of hatred is broken, through education of tolerance and acceptance.
But there is also another issue that needs to be tackled in the fight against racism and discrimination. Sometimes people within discriminated communities believe that the oppression 'their' people have to endure is greater than what others have had to endure. This thought process is dangerous, it belittles what others have gone through. and produces anger and resentment. This too can cause a vicious cycle of hatred, they cannot see past the injustices they have had to deal with and dismiss what others have gone through. In some ways this is even more damaging to the fight against racism and discrimination, as it can cause the victim of intolerance to become a perpetrator of discrimination.
It is important that those who have faced oppression in any form band together rather than trivialise what someone else has gone through if we are to have any hope of ending racism and discrimination.

This is our weekly instalment of inspiring Sunday Songs, and what a weekend it has been for music bringing people together. After World War 2 the Eurovision Song contest was started to bring unity to the continent of Europe. Since 1956 the competition has been held each year and celebrates the diversity and culture of the countries within Europe, with people being brought together with music.
Last night Austria's entry won the competition but it was more than just a win for the country, it was a win for the LGBT community also. Conchita Wurst who sang the Austrian song Rise Like A Phoenix has been at the centre of a media storm around the world. There has been some controversy in a handful of countries over the bearded drag queen performing, but the majority of Europe showed their support and made her this years winner.
"This night is dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and
freedom. You know who you are - we are unity and we are unstoppable ... I dream of a world where we don't have to talk about unnecessary things like
sexuality, who you love. I felt like tonight Europe showed that we are a
community of respect and tolerance," Conchita Wurst

Damon Albarn & Bobby Womack - The Bravest Man in the Universe
Baz Lurhman - Sunscreen Song
Pink - Perfect
Katy Perry - Roar
Last night Britain's got Talent also had a very special act. Bars and Melody are two young boys who wrote and sang an anti-bullying song, it really is quite heart-warming.
So there are only two weeks left of our FundIt Campaign! We really need your support to reach our target, and time is quickly ticking by. We are going to be running anti-racism Outreach Workshops at Philfest in Leitrim in June. For the workshops we need equipment such as a projector and that is why we are fundraising.
#KickRacismOutofTown is our new online campaign, and it's fun and easy for you to join in! All you have to do is take a photo of a street sign or a signpost with the name of your town and post it on Facebook or Twitter with the #KickRacismOutofTown followed by the name of your town and country.
We have e-mailed a copy of this link to Local and National Newspapers Nationwide and would love if you could share it further please!
It is with regards to our Campaign to raise funds for our upcoming Anti-Racism Outreach Workshops. We need to buy equipment lime projector and screen etc to run said workshops. thanks -T http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1s1jf8d
